Pilates
Pilates is an exercise system focused on improving flexibility and strength for the whole body, without building bulk. Pilates develops a strong ‘core’ or centre of the body. The core consists of deep abdominal muscles along with the muscles closest to the spine. Pilates emphasises proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment and concentrates on smooth flowing movement. The quality of movement is valued over quantity and repetitions. Proper breathing is essential to help you execute movements with maximum efficiency. A body with balanced strength and flexibility is less likely to be injured.
Regardless of age, fitness level and experience with exercise everybody can part take in our Pilates classes.
Attention to detail is vital in Pilates that’s why Shannon Physiotherapy have limited the number in each class to max 8.
Post Natal Pilates Classes;
Pilates is a safe and effective form of exercise to start after having a baby. It will increase flexibility and strength. It should help relieve muscular aches and improve your posture. Exercises will focus on strengthening the pelvic floor, deep abdominals and core stabilisers.
We appreciate that as a new mother it is difficult to fit in exercise classes with the demands of your new arrival, so we have scheduled dedicated mother and baby classes where you are able to bring your baby with you. Classes are limited to five mothers and babies. Your baby can lie by your side, sit in a car seat or play with the other babies. You are able to attend to your baby as and when you need. It is also a lovely opportunity to meet other mums and babies.
